Sheenwater is on Grand Island’s west shore, along West River Road and the west branch of the Niagara River, looking across to Canada. Like Edgewater, the name comes from a turn-of-the-century summer resort; the neighborhood that replaced it grew after the 1935 bridges. The west side is the quieter half of the island. Since 2018 the former West River Parkway has been a bike and pedestrian trail along the shoreline, so Sheenwater homes sit between the road and a car-free riverfront path that runs north toward Buckhorn Island State Park and south toward Beaver Island State Park, with sunset views over the river. Homes are in the Grand Island Central School District; the I-190 bridges are a short drive either way.
