According to the 2010 census, the population of Alden is 10,865 and it sits in the northeast part of Erie County, east of Buffalo. The town was made popular by the discovery of the mineral-rich “black” water that was discovered at a depth of about 1000 feet while drilling for natural gas in 1891 by a local drilling operation. The first Black Water bath house officially opened for business leading the town into an economic boom.
