About Grand Island, NY

The town of Grand Island has attracted both new residents and visitors for years with its strikingly beautiful waterfront location. The island is 7.5 miles long and 6 miles wide with 21 miles of river frontage. The town is known as “the heart of the Niagara” and offers expensive views of the South Grand Island Bridge  is a pair of twin two-lane truss arch bridges spanning the Niagara River between Tonawanda and Grand Island. Attractions

 

The Nike Base Grand Island Town Trails are kept well groomed in both Summer and fall for locals to enjoy cross-country ski trips as snowmobiling. The town’s Parks and Recreation Department hosts a variety of fun events from local races, to holiday-themed park events. Parks and Recreation also has a lovely outdoor Community Center for locals to rent when needed. Parks and Rec, also hosts several adult workout classes as well as youth recreational sports for the family to enjoy.

 

 

Parks

 

The Island Trails offers nearly 2,000 acres of permanently protected land for locals to embrace the outdoors and a chance to get fit and healthy while enjoying the landscape. The Island trails include wetlands, forests, waterfront trails, and two state parks. You will have an opportunity for hiking trails, snowmobile trails, and kayaking launch facilities on the amazing Niagara River. The island also benefits from two large trail systems – Scenic Woods and Nike Base Park.

 

 

 

Schools

 

Grand Island Centeral School District is a wonderful district with strong community support. There are three elementary schools in the district including one school that services students in Pre-K, kindergarten, as well as 1st and 2nd grades. The Middle School is located on the same campus as the high school. It shares the auditorium and pool with the high school but is separate in all other respects. The high school features a variety of programs, including advanced placement and college level programs. 85% of our graduating students in 2020 attended four year institutions.
