About Alden, NY

The town of Alden offers potential residents a beautiful countryside escape with opportunities for outdoor recreation of all types.  This historic town has something for everyone. According to the 2010 census, the population of Alden is 10,865 and it sits in the northeast part of Erie County, east of Buffalo. The town was made popular by the discovery of the mineral-rich “black” water that was discovered at a depth of about 1000 feet while drilling for natural gas in 1891 by a local drilling operation. The first Black Water bath house officially opened for business leading the town into an economic boom. Eventually, the popularity of the bath houses brought in more businesses and activities to the community.

Whether you’re a foodie or a wine connoisseur the town of Alden has what you are in search of. The locals enjoy meals with friends at Black Water Tavern and Tap where you can enjoy a relaxing afternoon. If you’re out for a stroll on weekend you can stop at The Pink Cow for an after-dinner ice cream treat with the family. The Alden Historical Society offers new residents a walk back in time with many educational programs for families as well as a variety of exhibits showcasing Alden’s history.

Alden town park has a beautiful walking path through the woods of a very old-growth forest.

Alden currently has two town parks with soccer fields, baseball, and softball diamonds. The town of Alden sponsors a six-week summer youth program that provides a full day of recreation activities such as arts & crafts, outdoor games, dance, drama/theater, swimming and field trips for children. The Alden Recreation Department provides a year-round recreation program for youth, adults and senior citizens to enjoy.

 

 

Schools

 

The town of Alden offers an excellent education experience for those with families looking to move to the area. The Alden Central School District is home to one high school for grades 9-12, one middle school for grades 6-8, an intermediate school for 3-5 graders, and one primary school for students in K-2 grade. All four of the schools the district maintains offer your student a wonderful academic and social experience. The town of Alden is a lovely place to settle down as a family.
