According to the 2010 census, the population of Alden is 10,865 and it sits in the northeast part of Erie County, east of Buffalo. The town was made popular by the discovery of the mineral-rich “black” water that was discovered at a depth of about 1000 feet while drilling for natural gas in 1891 by a local drilling operation. The first Black Water bath house officially opened for business leading the town into an economic boom. Eventually, the popularity of the bath houses brought in more businesses and activities to the community.

The Alden Recreation Department provides a year-round recreation program for youth, adults and senior citizens to enjoy.

The town of Alden offers an excellent education experience for those with families looking to move to the area. The Alden Central School District is home to one high school for grades 9-12, one middle school for grades 6-8, an intermediate school for 3-5 graders, and one primary school for students in K-2 grade.
